Botox® Injections
Botox® injections correct visible signs of stress and aging by relaxing muscles, creating a less wrinkled, smoother look, and a younger and more relaxed appearance.
The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botoxr, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles. Studies have also suggested that Botox® is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.
Botox® injections take only a few minutes, no anesthesia is required. Botox ® is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment; aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment in order to reduce bruising. It generally takes three to seven days for Botox ® injections to take full effect, and will last four to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time as muscles are trained to relax.
After Botox® Injections
Temporary bruising is a common side effect. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can occur, but this is rare. A small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping, which usually resolves in three weeks. Eyelid drooping is usually caused by migration of Botox. For this reason, you shouldn't rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection or lay down for three to four hours.
